Where I've worked
Shopping and Performance Max at feed level. Judged on margin, not just ROAS.
Local search for estate agents, where one valuation lead is the whole game.
Long sales cycles, thin search volume, lead quality over lead count.
Regulated advertising, awareness campaigns, and copy that survives compliance.
Restricted categories where policy knowledge keeps accounts running.
Install campaigns judged on what happens after the download.
How I work
Paid accounts rarely fail because nobody touched them. They fail because someone touched everything, every week, and no test ever ran long enough to prove anything. I keep a small book on purpose, so every account gets a structure I can explain in one sentence and a test plan that runs to a conclusion.
Reporting is written for the person paying the invoice. What changed, what it cost, what I would do next, and what I got wrong. In that order, in plain English, before anyone has to ask for it.
A lot of the analysis behind that now sits on AI-assisted workflows: search term clustering, anomaly checks, first-pass ad copy. Deciding what to actually do with any of it is still the job.
