Is your Performance Max campaign actually set up properly?

Pmax hides more than it shows, which makes it easy to leave badly configured and never notice. Tick what's true and see how much of the black box you've actually got under control.

    Why this matters

Pmax rewards good inputs and hides bad ones

Performance Max isn't magic and it isn't a black box you're helpless against — it's a bidding and targeting system that does exactly what its inputs tell it to, just with far less visibility into what it's actually doing than a standard Search campaign. The reporting gaps are real, but most underperforming Pmax campaigns I've audited aren't failing because the algorithm is bad. They're failing because the feed, the signals, or the exclusions were never set up properly in the first place.

A low score here doesn't mean Pmax is wrong for you. It usually means there's an afternoon of unglamorous setup work sitting between where the account is and where it should be.
